Thanksgiving is a big deal to me. I get together with my kids and grandkids. Haven't seen them in ages, feel like I don't even know the youngest granddaughter.

Christmas is a much bigger deal to their mother than it is to me. I always work Christmas so another member of my team can have the day off and I catch up with the kids at some point later.

Last year, we did our "Christmas" at Thanksgiving because my daughter was due around the holidays and we didn't want her having the pressure of family Christmas when a baby might be coming along.

I'm going to be upset beyond description if I don't get to see the kids/grandkids for Thanksgiving but it doesn't look like it will happen. I bought a small turkey last week, figuring it would be dinner for one. If we do get together, I'll save it for my Christmas dinner but I suspect it will be gone by then.

If you had told me the night Rudy Gobert's positive test was revealed that it would be even worse in November and Thanksgiving plans would be in disarray, I would not have believed it. But here we are, it is worse and plans everywhere in disarray.

I’m supposed to have Thanksgiving dinner with my brother and his husband. Just the 3 of us, plus their dog and (unfortunately for me) cat at their house.

My family is having Thanksgiving at home, just the three of us. Partly that's because of Covid caution on our part, and partly because the group that is having the family get-together are 90% Trumpists and we don't trust them not to infect everyone at the table.

Me, ladyfriend, and our moms, who’ve both been here already. Her brother and sister-in-law are possibilities, but her brother is a corrections officer and the place is in the middle of a COVID surge. I’ve made my concerns known, but he’s also the sensible sort who wouldn’t come over if things remain a disaster at work.

We bought outdoor heat lamps which are super warm for this purpose. Our kids will have all virtual school the two weeks before and basically quarantining, so we are ok to have older relatives over who have been concerned about their spreading it to them. We are doing two shifts outside weather permitting, a brunch with my mother and aunt and then a late-ish lunch with my mother-in-law and her boyfriend. Going to cater instead of cook for the first time.

We’ve canceled our annual Thanksgiving trip to the in-laws.

In the 16 years I have known my wife, we have had every Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner at my sister-in-laws. Usually there are anywhere from 16 to 24 people there. This year, we are staying at home and hosting our daughter and grandson. She works from home and doesn't go out. He does his Zoom school from our house, so we have a tight little pod. Another reason not to go, as someone else said, is most of the others are rabid Trump fans. Also, they won't be wearing masks. It will be the same for Christmas, too, I'm sure.

Against my better judgement, we are going to my sister-in-law's as always for Thanksgiving, and I really don't have any other choice. Well, I do. That's divorce.
There will be a number of people there. At least we plan to eat outside, and the law has been laid down that masks will be worn.
The reason? We have a niece with cancer who has been sent home from Duke and told she likely won't see Christmas. Also, my wife hasn't seen her mother other than what could be described as prison-style visits since February.
Everything about it is a shitty situation. Somebody will get sick because of this, but I just don't have any real options.
I'm supposed to be immune, so I personally shouldn't get it again. I've told me wife that when we return, she can't be around my parents for two weeks.

For Thanksgiving, we've usually gone to my brother's 40 miles north. Last year, we joined the family of my daughter's boyfriend in the Phoenix area (maybe 25 people who I mostly didn't know). We were invited to both this year. My wife said, let's tell your brother we're going to Phoenix, and tell the Phoenix people we're going to your brother's. We'll hide at home, have turkey sandwiches and watch football. Didn't even laugh, sounded like a good plan. Alas, we're going to my brother's. The plan is to eat outside. Also, his daughter (my niece) is pregnant and 39 years old, so there is that potential issue regarding infections.

But he can't resist the urge to get in the false claim that "99% of people will make a full recovery."
