What pro football hall of fame coach started his career 1-16?

Has to be Tom Landry, right?

    Wait.

Jimmy Johnson's in the Hall now.

I'll take Jimmy. I think Landry had a tie in the Cowboys' first season.

Johnson is close he went 1-15, but then won the first game of his second season.

Al Davis? I know the early Oakland Raiders were 1-13 or something like that and it might have carried over until the following season.

Al Davis isn’t in the Hall as a coach, is he?

Just thinking about this and had another thought.

Is it Chuck Noll? I know the Steelers were a mess in the ‘60s — Terry Bradshaw was the first overall pick in the draft and Joe Greene was very close to No. 1 overall — so I’m thinking they lost a lot right when Noll was starting out.

It's not Jimmy. They won the '90 opener against San Diego (I was there)

It’s Noll. Won his first game and then dropped the final 13. He started 1970 with three straight losses.

Davis took over the 1-13 team, and then went 10-4. Never did that well again, but his “legend” started there.

Yep, and he singlehandedly killed my fantasy baseball team that week with that one game.

    (Yeah, I know, nobody gives a ...”)
