Small Gatherings Spread the Virus, but Are They Causing the Surge?

On Boston local news during the 5-7 shift, the weatherpeople on several channels made a point of saying which day over the holiday weekend was best for outdoor get-togethers. So that idea is percolating down.

 

Outdoors are quite safe when it comes to COVID 19.

 

I know two health department guys. They’d say it’s the informal gatherings that is driving the hospitalizations - perhaps not the surge - because somehow the most vulnerable are getting the disease without going a hell of a lot of places.

Bible studies, small friend enclaves, and the like. Replicating over and over again.

 

My sister is going to try to get together with my mom. She has reservations about it and she asked me about it. I said, well ... Then she just got mad at me for confirming her reservations. Anyway, one of the things she brought up was being outside. I suppose. It's supposed to be in the mid 40s.

Speaking of contact tracing ... an attorney I know tested positive on Nov. 18. It was five days after that positive result before he got a call from a contact tracer. Then he got a second one a few hours later. Then he got a third one the next day. Each time, he explained he'd already given all the info to the first tracer. Each time, the other callers said they weren't seeing that info in the system.
