"I’ve been surprised by the intensity of the Meryl Streep loyalty."

Day-Lewis was the Koufax of his time. He didn't play long but when he did he was money.

A great actor takes risks. I should like to know one that Brad Pitt ever took.

    Define risk.

Oh, I don't know, say, playing a dude forced to pursue his art and paint with his feet because he can't use his hands.

Helen Mirren belongs on the list. I don't read listicles so I don't know where she's placed.

Pitt climbed mountains to prepare for the Tibet movie.

He learned to box. He learned to sword fight. He does his accents.

It's funny to think there's some idea floating out there that Brad Pitt just shows up and winks and smiles for the camera.

But I guess he didn't learn to paint with his feet so he's deffo B-level talent.

Meet Joe Black, Seven Years in Tibet, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Bob Ford, 12 Years a Slave, Moneyball, Burn After Reading, The Tree of Life, Curious Case of Benjamin Button, etc.

Even Fight Club was pretty risky.

To his credit, it's not all Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Ocean's Eleven.

    songbird-

don't be like the twats here who can't handle criticism of their fave player/team/actor and such without acting out.

I never said Pitt produced shit work. But for all the movies listed there's also celluloid Big Macs like Troy and Interview with a Vampire. He knows where to find an easy check.

(I'm sure someone will say Interview was artistic)

lol I can handle criticism all day and he doesn't fall into any fave category.

Day-Lewis painted with his feet therefore God!

Or is it he learned to paint with his feet because method?

This'll be the last Pittian reply (for now).

Love this scene for many reasons but mostly for Pitt.

A lot of shit actors say they're method and still can't pull it off.

Daniel Day-Lewis is not my favorite either, although I respect the hell out of him.

Thirty acting credits (including shorts) and three Best Actor wins. Part of that comes from selectivity.

No World War Z's in there, either. Snicker.

    Day-Lewis is an anomaly.

Also the best actor of his generation.

Pitt is a little underrated as an actor because he's such a huge star. So is Clooney.

It's funny - my initial reaction was that maybe the Streep oversight was justified because the bulk of her beloved work was all pre-2000.

I looked it up. since 2000 she's been nominated for ten acting Oscars (and won one).

I'm not one to put a ton of weight on awards.... but that's impressive.
