    Trumpists are giddy.
    Humans are not.
Hope it’s not the Trumpist plague and that it is temporary.

Phase III data - Your Local Epidemiologist

A good explanation of the Pfizer public data.

The biggest news for me is that the vaccine shows 52% effectiveness 14 days after the first dose. That's a big relief because 1) We get some benefit from our vaccination campaign by right around Christmas, 2) people who fuck off and don't return for a second dose are still getting flu-shot levels of protection and 3) if something goes wrong with the supply chain and people can't get their second doses, we haven't completely wasted it.

It's going to be like hitting the top of the roller-coaster in late December. We'll start seeing things decline slowly, then pick up more speed every week. More people vaccinated, more people infected (We're currently picking up new infections at a rate of 1-2% of the population per week). I still think a normal Opening Day is an optimistic but possible projection.

And don't forget that 75% of COVID deaths are people aged 65 and older. By focusing the first wave of vaccinations on them, we should be extremely effective at lowering the number of severe negative outcomes, even beyond just our ability to limit the spread.

Good thing no none outside of McCains cares a flying fuck about Idaho. Like the potatoes, though.
