Manish has been removed from the Jets beat.

I'll just add: If there's even a modicum of truth to the allegation that he harassed multiple female Jets beat reporters over the years, it's easy pickings for a media reporter like Laura Wagner to do a story that serves as the official account of Mehta's misbehavior on the NYDN's dime. That could be a matter of days away, or perhaps more like weeks.

When was the last time a news org made a public statement about a reporter being removed from their beat? Extraordinary IMO.

Has the Daily News busted any unions? If their reporters are unionized, wouldn't the union object to something like this?

Why? It's highly doubtful he was on contract, more likely he's an at-will employee and can be dismissed for any reason, and without warning, as long as the reason is not illegal.
I guess the union could go to bat for him if they truly thought he was being falsely accused of various journalistic and human missteps.

If the NYDN did have a reporter's union and judging by how long he had been silent from Twitter, this would have been a negotiated removal, dismissal, resignation.
IE -- The Arash Markazi situation from a couple months ago where he was silent before action was taken.

There are a few editors on this board. Would any of you expect the sports editor to be disciplined for this?

There are rumblings the Washington Post is doing a deep dive on this.

Thanks for the link. My first takeaway: "Manish Mehta is no longer with New York Daily News" is a bigger deal than yesterday's tweet saying "removed from the New York Jets beat." The Daily News could've just said Mehta was not with the paper anymore in the first place.

Edit to add: "Sources told The Post McDonald’s tweet was a direct reference to Mehta." Uh, no shit. McDonald is making no attempt to hide his disdain for Mehta and the Daily News since that first tweet.
