And, he would have been the most popular athlete of his time if it was not for Babe Ruth

Been re-reading the Dempsey biography by his daughter Barbara the last week. What a fantastic book, just as good as Roger Kahn's A Flame of Pure Fire. Jack does mention he was approached early in his career about throwing a small fight but he refused. Just re-watched his brutal KO of Willard in 1919 in Toledo. How Willard survived that first round (seven knockdowns, butchered face, lost teeth, broken bones) and then proceeded to fight two more rounds was perhaps the ultimate display of bravery and courage ever witnessed in a boxing ring. Mike Tyson has said many times Jack Dempsey is one of his all time favorites.

I was lucky to do a Biofile about Jack via his wife Deanna back in the later 90s. Some fantastic insights... Biofile: Jack Dempsey Interview - Mr BioFile

Gennady Golovkin is one of the best fighters I ever saw. In his prime he beat four future hall of famers without needing to land a single punch - Cotto, Sergio Martinez, Canelo and Floyd at 154 wanted nothing to do with him. Floyd said he would fight anyone from 154 on down, had won a title at 154, GGG challenged floyd at 154 and never got a response (that's a duck). GGG was a beautiful perfect fighter, he made it look easy and he made every opponent look overmatched and helpless.

It's a shame we never saw Golovkin at his best, he would have slaughtered Cotto, Martinez, Canelo and Floyd but unfortunately the sport and GGG were cheated out of those fights. The Mayweather duck and dodge and handpick business model has nearly ruined boxing in USA.

Didn't GGG lose to Canelo? And to a draw so he's 0-1-1 against Canelo?

More to the story beneath the surface. GGG slaughtered Canelo in LA in sparring about 8 years ago. Thus Canelo and Oscar ducked prime GGG until finally they fought him when he was 36 or 36 and at the end with no leverage and no other big money fight options. Kind of like what Leonard did to Hagler. Stalled Marvin for years. Marvin, if you want the big payday you have to dance to my tune, in other words, play soft and let me have a fake win and no rematch. GGG got about $25m for two canelo sparring sessions where it was clear he held back, and that's a lot better than $1m to fight the no name patsies that the public and tv networks were tired of anyway. There is supposed to be a third fight but for some reason Canelo is breaking that promise. Perhaps the third fight is supposed to be real and Canelo doesn't have confidence? Mayweather was also supposed to rematch Oscar but for some reason fake retired to avoid that payday. It's reasonable to think Oscar was supposed to win the rematch or it would be real the second time.

But of course, this will all be too much for you to handle, because no one talks about this stuff in the mainstream media, you will make conspiracy theory accusations and go on believing what you are supposed to believe, without daring to think critically, outside the box.

It's really obvious if you followed the duck for two years and you have common sense and you could see Golovkin held back on the cash cow fraud.

But if you're a media mind controlled imbecile, you believe everything you see and hear.

Canelo was the cash cow with the long term earning power and the $300m dazn contract. Only an imbecile would think the boxing powers that be would let the long term cash cow franchise lose to an aging fading guy from Kazakhstan. Follow the money ya big dummy!

Well, you were pretty clear in saying Saul and GGG never fought at all.

    whatever
