A long-ago ex said I should watch that movie, but I never got around to it. Probably a reaction against the pretty boy, who I really didn't like for a long time — and even today I'm still iffy about him.

You should see it. DiCaprio is good.

It's a worthwhile update - very much in the Baz Luhrmann style (but a little less Luhrmannized than his later movies). You lose a little of the classic iambic force of the thing, but there haven't been many good film productions of R & J.

So to me it's the equal of the 1968 Zeffirelli version, and better than just about everything going back to Leslie Howard and Norma Shearer (both much too old to play these roles) in 1936. Worth remembering that Juliet is 13 in the play.

Danes was 17 when she played her.

It's okay. I don't love it, but I also don't love the source material. Give me a decent adaptation of Hamlet instead, any day.

So Roku and HBO Max have finally reached a deal. You'll be able to get Max via Roku starting Thursday. Roku was catching heat from subscribers, and Max wanted those eyeballs before Wonder Woman 1984 hit on Christmas Day.

Finished Ted Lasso tonight. The final episode encapsulates everything that is great and awful about sports.

Lasso will forever be in the conversation for best comedy show I’ve ever watched with The Office, Parks and Rec and 30 Rock and a couple others.

Glad to hear this. We were looking into getting a Roku, but probably would have passed without HBO Max. The whole point would be to watch HBO Max and Disney+ on our television.

I know community college English teachers would frown on the use of adverbs but Lasso is very good.

"Ever"? I don't know but it's very good and at times very spot-on and the biting music references are very funny.

And some of the subtle stuff like the Fletch reference is very very good. It's a well-done show in spite of the few contrivances.

And, Jason Sudeikas really owned the role. He could do 10 more shitty roles after this and I wouldn't care because he brought Ted Lasso to life.

Ted Lasso is one of the best comedy characters I've ever enjoyed.
