Not exactly true, because the number of outstanding athletes who chose baseball over football and, to a less extent, basketball, at that time was far, far higher than it is today. The Dodgers and Cardinals, for example, often had 300 or more players in the spring-training camps, competing for 25 MLB spots.

Not necessarily. Remember that there were just 16 teams in the pre-integration era. Just 400 roster spots (25 X 16), compared to 780 today (26 X 30).

Hello, everybody. On some of the baseball groups I follow, there has been concern that Ted Williams is no longer recognized as the last player to bat .400 in a season.

What does everyone here think about that?

I believe Mr. Gibson finally has his rightful place and it is a wonderful thing. Of nothing was “displaced,” the gesture would have been less “impactful.”

I sense a new era of correcting systemic sabermetric favoritism.

    I'm sure Ted doesn't give a shit.

I do wish Hank Aaron's HR's in the Negro Leagues had been counted, as they would have put him past Bonds, I believe, which would have been epic.

That argument will start in 3 ... 2...

Let's hope Jonah Keri doesn't lead that charge too.

I'm sur someone will ask him when he's defrosted. But recall he used part of his HOF speech to push for the induction of Paige, Gibson etc.
