At least five beat writers took the buyout.

Most notable cut in on-air talent I've seen is Chris Rose from Intentional Talk.

TR Sullivan "retired" too, continuing a surely coincidental trend of the most experienced writers being drummed out and replaced by 22-year-olds well-versed in churning out dreadfully dull content for the dot com. I'd heard there was some talk of an age discrimination suit during Dinn Mann's days, but then he got drummed out too.

And then Dinn Mann filed a lawsuit.

I think Flanigan in Kansas City took the buyout, but I'm not sure.

  9. Has the future of sports writing, as it relates to professional sports and major markets, ever looked so bleak? I mean, it looked bad one year ago. But, now, when the leagues’ own publications/websites/broadcasting partners are suffering so badly, I can’t imagine what to tell even the best and most ambitious 20-something who wants to cover professional sports.

It's not a good look for the industry when MLB is having to layoff writers and TV personalities.

Nothing against Rose, but Intentional Talk was some kind of dreck on a network that generally does a lot of things well.

The buyouts were intended to forestall layoffs.
