Were you under the impression that China was something other than a repressive authoritarian/Communist country? And has been since 1949?

Or are you just tweaking the NBA?

Or every other American institution doing business there?

 

The piece is somewhat critical of China.

I'm also just struck by the idea that COVID became, above all else, specifically an American tragedy to so many on Twitter.

 

It was an American tragedy because of how it was handled.
It came from China, we made it harder than it had to be.
China also is a terrible place.

So because it was also bad elsewhere, it wasn't a tragedy here? 330,000 dead, but always room for a good whattabout.

 

I also think China is a god awful place. Because it is one. We're not supposed to say it, though.

Follow the thread. I noted the Chinese government jailed a woman for four years for reporting COVID was bad. I then noted the New Yorker piece probably would have landed Lawrence Wright a life sentence. (In part because it's critical of China.) I was then told I should already know how bad China is. In other words, shut up about China.

I just went to the drugstore to pick up an item and it was the first time someone has apologized (a woman) for nearly walking into me.

 

Oh spare me your fake concern for how we are reporting about China. You used it as a whattaboutism to down play—in your words—this being an American tragedy.
