    Democratic priority for 60 years. ... that got through when the Democrats had a huge majority in the House and a filibuster proof Senate. I am not suggesting that they didn't need to get everyone on board, but most of that is about individual legislators milking it to get whatever pork they want attached to it for their own benefit -- to pay off a donor, pander to certain constituents for votes, etc.

    Honestly, though, I look at the ACA as a "victor / spoils" thing that rarely presents itself with the numbers they had for a short time. ... not some legislative magic.

    Trumpists are crowing about their man being named Gallup's Most Admired Man survey and ending Obama's 12-year run at the top. I guess they think Trump will have a 12+ year run now?

    Dave shouldn't have flipped that into a Trump critique but instead into why progressives don't celebrate half-measures.

    I'd argue it's because a satisfied progressive movement has lost its moral advantage of being perpetually trod upon.

    It's a lesson for the future, too: Even if America performed a hard left turn, there'd be another progressive moral imperative to address, without which America is an irredeemably bad place forever and always. And another after that. It can never be good.

    Which, incidentally, is more or less a religious position.
