The things they talk about doing in the name of accomplishing those goals (because all that matters are promises and intentions) are more of what created many of those problems. It's the arsonist riding in on the fire truck to put out the fire. Which is how Trump and the insanity of the last four years even became a possibility in the first place.

    Wash, rinse, repeat.

Most damaging was Barack Obama steering us out of a depression and being incredibly good at campaigning.

Eh. It was his “clinging to God and guns” gaffe equivalent.

"You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

That sentence is 1) true and 2) only a "gaffe" when spun through the take-it-out-of-context Republican media machine.

But hey. "What difference does it make?"

And it was proven true by Trump who got elected thanks to people clinging to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Maybe they simply enjoy guns and religion, my friend.

My wife was running a state house race for a Democrat in Appalachia at the time.

She started screaming when she heard it.

Nobody gives a shit about context in an election. Win the things. Don’t say stupid stuff.

It's going to get really ugly in DC today.
