Why? There is virtually no part of the federal response to Covid-19 that was well thought out, planned, and executed. The quality of state responses vary widely, and all the guidance they got was "Here's your vaccine shipment. Keep it cold."

Driving around today, heard a couple of reports wondering if there would be delays in administering the second dose of vaccine. Only in the aftermath of 2020 is this a question!

In Brevard County, Mom and Dad have an appointment to get their first doses on Sunday morning. Not sure when Gwen and I will be notified here in Radical John Ossoff Land.

It is, and doing it the other way is concerning, too. It's pretty much concerning everywhere you look.

I am guessing the Biden folks didn’t make that decision without consulting the manufacturers.

If they don't make absolutely certain that people will be able to get their second dose under the timeframe that the trials showed efficacy, it's a problem, because the protection provided with just one dose is greatly reduced, and we don't know how effective the vaccine will be if people get the second dose on a different timetable.

The whole "I was told this thinking was dangerous" comment seems misguided to me, though. Maybe someone, somewhere did say that, but when initial plans were being made for a vaccine rollout, we were dealing with different circumstances than we are today. What was a bad situation is even worse today, with increasing numbers of daily infections and deaths. ... either due to people acting like idiots, a more virulent strain having taken hold, or some combination of the two.

The reason that the people advising Biden are suggesting this new strategy is the result of a cost-benefit analysis weighing the cost I mentioned above versus a possible benefit of stemming the runaway infections and saving lives. They may or may not be making a good decision if they go that way, but unlike the shitty response we've had so far, at least they tried to model the different courses of action and they are trying to do it in a reasoned way.

I'm certainly not going to criticize that.

Do you think Joe Biden listened to advisors and experts, and tried to come to an informed decision?

Or do you think he just heard something on MSNBC, steamrolled the meeting and said “this is what we’re gonna do!”?

Oh, I'm not criticizing them, either. If I'd been in charge this approach (or something similar to it) would have been in place two or three weeks ago ... about the time I was told that even pondering such was dangerous and would kill a lot of people.
