"I'm David McCullough. In the history of the American presidency, there have been plenty of incumbents who lost re-election and a few presidential candidates who lost the election despite winning the popular vote. But only once, in 1888, did an incumbent president win the popular vote, but lost the election.

And it happened to Grover Cleveland, the beefy New Yorker with a much younger wife. Cleveland was so incensed at this defeat to his low-key opponent--Benjamin Harrison--that he spent weeks fomenting doubt and discord about the election. He contacted election officials in key states and urged them to "find the fraud."

But on Feb. 20, 1889--two weeks before Harrison's inauguration, Cleveland gave an unhinged speech in Washington in front of his diehard supporters, called Mugwumps. These men then violently attacked the Capitol Building hoping to disrupt the certification of Harrison's victory and to kidnap or kill House members they opposed.

Just kidding. None of that happened. Cleveland quietly attended Harrison's inauguration and even held an umbrella for him while he read his address to the nation. While Cleveland is little remembered today, it is clear he was no bloodthirsty insurrectionist. Good night."

One thing Trump's rhetoric has done is help fracture families.

I have immediate family members who are not talking, unfriending on social media and basically telling us that anyone who voted for Biden is a POS or worse. It's sad that we can't just have a difference of opinion and I learned facts don't work.

I tried to use the fact that something like only 0.0016 percent of votes going back the past 30 years were fraudulent. But suddenly, and only in states Biden won by a small number, is there massive fraud. Really?

Hopefully I can have a relationship with some of them again. But l'm afraid the lies and division will continue long after the liar in chief is gone.

Same here, only different side. I've stopped talking to some friends because I told them anybody who voted for Trump is a POS. I have yet to feel bad about it, but I'm also not proud of it.

Confrontation is unpleasant. But you will in the long run be better off cutting the Trumpists you know out of your life. You can do that quietly. Just so much less stress not to have to listen to their bullshit ravings.

The US is going to have two presidents for the next four years.

May not even be a bad thing, really. Might be quite good. But...it'll be, for the media and corporate class, two.

We have a wedding coming up in the family in September, and my uncle can’t help himself and goes after the bride — his niece— any time she posts anything pro-Biden. It reached a point where her fiancée chimed in a couple of days before the election and told my uncle to knock if the fuck off. So yeah, should be fun times.

I don't feel bad about it. Would you want these people around your kids? I don't and that made the decision for me

Biden was elected fair and square. I believe there was such a tiny bit of fraud it doesn't even matter. It's a rounding error.
