It's a sad indictment of our politics today that what appears to have given the GOP enough "courage" to condemn and respond to the attack, isn't the destruction the mob caused, or Trump's incitement of the mob, or even human decency and respect for democracy - but big money donors telling them the purse was closed until they did something.

    Its complicated.
My brother is the biggest trump supporter. But he is actually super polite (but firm) about it. I called him out on his batshit cray predictions from this summer (Biden would lose the nomination for being mentally unfit; Hillary would become the nominee; Hillary would be arrested on sedition charges). He did the text equivalent of a shrug. When he pointed out the election night betting markets as a reason for shenanigans, I sent him the link to that Vox article where the guy in charge of Bovada said they took the trump voters for all they had. He read it, and texted back, "that was a crazy night, they took me for $300."
Yet he never waivers. 2 weeks ago, he was waiting for the Dominion audits. And the court overturns. I texted him this weekend and asked, half seriously, if he went to DC. He said his wife wouldn't let him. I told him maybe there will be a failed, treasonous insurrection closer to his house next time.

My brother in law, who lives around the corner, my wife and I have basically stopped communicatin with. Me because of trump, and he pisses my wife off with his "its just the flu/masks dont work" mantras. We went on vacations for 15 years together.

I have four trump voting friends from various stages of my life, that I have called out. This was from the first days after the election to late december. I told them that I didn't want to get into a fight, but told them that if they voted for trump a second time, and don't have a huge feeling of remorse or regret, that something inside of them is broken. I only did it with the trump friends I respect, that are hard working and appear to live their lives right. I said I couldn't reconcile it. With three of them, we had real meaningful conversations. The high school friend, a Christian, said that he voted for trump for selfish reasons (taxes), and that if he were to look at it, Democrats live the christian ideals better than republicans.
Another, knowing my early schedule, came over at 5 am the morning after we emailed, while I was walking the dogs, and we did the equivalent of 'hugging it out'.

I am sure one of the other four I've lost as a friend. That's okay.

I can. Before the state ungerrymandered the district, it voted Mark Meadows into Capitol Hill.

So Cawthorn makes perfect sense for them.

Both vile. Both idiots. Both amoral and lacking basic human decency.

Liz Cheney to vote for impeachment. That won't endear her to some of her constituents, but she's been a consistent Trump critic throughout and pretty much bulletproof in Wyoming.
