    The Daily News laid off 50 percent of its editorial staff 2 1/2 years ago and it cut sports from 30 people to 9. They were already running AP stories for a lot of NY teams that used to have a well-covered beat.

    Very good point. Sad. Overall it reflects poorly on Tribune and the hedge fund that's gotten its tentacles around it.

    Still, the NFL is the NFL. I'm not asking for them to have a guy who's just dedicated to the St. John's basketball beat 12 months a year.
