Yeah keeping business open is fine, but people are being evicted because they cant pay rent. The Lakers got a loan (before they paid it back). McConnell said he didn't want to give a ONE TIME payment of $2,000 because he wasn't sure how people would use it. The way it's been handled is ridiculous. You can't give people $70K, but I think the point Abbot is (badly) making is for the money that went to "small" businesses, you could have given a third of the country about a year's wages (some would make a little less, but many of us would make more) and everyone suddenly having a year's wage means they can pay rent. The landlord can pay taxes and a mortgage. People would buy cars. People would spend the money in the economy. It needed to be a balance where people got some, business got some and millionaires and businesses with ties to GOP lawmakers or SBINO (small bushiness in name only) got next to nothing.

Instead we drive up the debt to subsidize farmers because Trump is in a pissing contest with China. We beef up a bloated military. We build a wall that is only about 40 miles long and is a POS. We give tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans. We can't now clutch pearls about the debt when it wasn't a problem when it suited millionaires.

I have already played this game,
Hillary wins and trump whines and bitches for 4 years that it was rigged...
He runs on that and the fact that 100,000 people died from the covid because She botched the response and he would have done the best job ever...
he wins (despite doing the awesome job I am sure she would have done, running the country) and we are just starting the trump era.

One thing I know. If Hillary had won, the GOP would've dropped Trump like a hot brick into the deepest hole they could find. They were all ready to walk away after Access Hollywood, then snuck back when they realized that might hurt them too. But if he'd lost, they'd have had no compunction about making him a GW Bush style unperson.

A friend who is older, well-educated and knows better was saying exactly this after the midterms.

Big lesson: It is beyond easy to manipulate people, for fun and profit.

But this is the thing with America...
That business owner who is used to getting their $500,000 a year is going to take that money so they get their $500,000 a year. If that means pocketing $400,000 and the business gets $100,000, so be it. There is never trickle down economics. It's a ruse.

Although, at least in the beginning of this, there was no market for a lot of products those businesses produced. Service or product.

True, except Kennedy's legislation was bottled up in Congress because he had no idea how to do the arm-twisting LBJ knew was necessary to get it passed.

And JFK had nothing to do with the Great Society legislation that LBJ passed later in his presidency. Like him or not, his political skills were unmatched in his era.
