Different era in a league with not nearly as many teams, so it's not really comparable in any meaningful way, but still: the 1968-69 season was the NBA's 23rd. Bill Russell played in his 12th NBA finals that year.

 

After the 1963 World Series, Yogi Berra had played in 20 percent of all World Series to that point (14 of 60).
Joe Dimaggio had played in 10 of 48 World Series after his last one in 1951.

 

Super Bowl is relatively young as a championship event, as the Brady example discounts all "NFL championship" games that preceded it.

 

The Yogi Berra example seems pretty comparable.

It's an amazing thing, for any player. In a team sport, it also says "wow this person played on a lot of great teams!"

Yes, quite a few more now. First title game, when the league went to two divisions, was 1933. So from 1933-1965. That's 33.

There were actually 37 NFL championship games. The NFL and AFL still crowned their own champions until the merger in the 1970 season.
That's how the Jets (and until last year the Chiefs) are the answer to a trivia question -- what is the only team to win a Super Bowl, but not an NFL championship?

 

So the Baltimore Colts and Minnesota Vikings are only teams to win the NFL Championship and lose their final game.
