They probably should have thought about that before they pissed him off so bad that he's publicly demanding one. The Texans would be better off making the trade now, before teams who would be in the market commit their assets elsewhere.

Nice way for the Rams to get out from that disastrous long-term commitment. Dumb of them to commit that level of money to Jared Goff in the first place. Bought far too much into their Super Bowl run and believing he was that guy when he was really the guy that Jeff Fisher wouldn't put out on the field his rookie season.

The only serious drawback is that the Rams won't have any high picks for roughly a generation when factoring in picks to the Lions for Goff and picks to the Jaguars for Jalen Ramsey. Massive commitment forward to go for it now.

I get liking the picks, but Goff is a mess who carries a massive salary-cap number. And the Rams got out from under it with a "mere" $20M dead money cap hit. Dumping him altogether would have been three times worse financially.

And if you're the Lions, do you really want another roster nightmare? Especially given that the culture that Jim Caldwell established is long gone? It's not that Goff is a bad guy - not going there - but there's a clear problem with his ability to run an offense. Because, simply put, if there isn't, then this mystique surrounding Sean McVay as a quarterback and offensive guru is the biggest bill of goods in the NFL.

The Lions are completely rebuilding, by the time it matters Goff and his cap hit will be meaningless. I also would think they got more by taking on that contract. I think McVay has already proven himslef

By that mentality, I understand the Lions' side of things. It's not like they have a bunch of building blocks on the roster already.

I don't dispute that this is terrible for the Lions. But, aside from having no appreciable draft capital for years because of this deal and the Ramsey deal, it works for the "win now" mentality for the Rams.

As for McVay, I'm not as convinced. Remember how many coaching moves have been made the last few seasons in a blatant attempt to emulate the McVay model. If someone that revered couldn't make Goff work, then it affects the way he is viewed ... or, IMO, it should.

He made it work well enough to get to a super bowl.

Wow. If that is the market for Stafford, imagine what the Texans could get for Watson if they did give in to his trade demand.
