Pedroia (Pedroyer to hear Remy say it) has retired. He was the Tanner Boyle of the Red Sox.

I think he'll be managing the Red Sox soon.

    Dustin Pedroia, Hall of Fame?!?

I'm a Boston fan, but I kind of lean toward "no," although his case is better than I thought it was after looking at his B-R page. He was a pretty unique player, all things considered - his highest similarity score is Howie Kendrick at 898, and his Top 10 is mostly high contact, low strikeout guys of the past 20 years. Only one is in the Hall of Fame, and that one is Travis Jackson, a Veterans Committee pick about 60 years after he played. (Good glove, and good hitting for the era SS, that I had never heard of, that played for some good Giants teams in the 20s and 30s, and might have been a sympathy pick because he was in poor health.) Altuve (#10) is in his comparables list, and he seems on track to be a better version of Pedroia.

That being said, Pedroia was a 4x Gold Glove, 4x All Star, 1x MVP, 2x World Series winner. Injuries and durability hurt him, which is probably a function of his size and how he played - only 9 seasons of more than 100 games. When it comes to WAR, he's behind poor overlooked Sweet Lou and Bobby Grich, and he's behind the mid-point of 2b HOF as well (69.5 total value / 44.4 seven year peak, vs. 51.6 / 41.0 for Pedroia). If Whittaker and Grich can't get in, and guys like Utley, Cano and Kinsler have better cases and are going to be on the ballot soon too, I don't think he's in.

he was well on his way but if you put him in, there's going to be about several other second baseman that scream, you gotta be shitting me while they are waiting.

If you are going to have only eight true full seasons, they better be outstandingly good. And even for his position, I don't think you can say Pedroia has more than one -- maybe two if you are being generous.

I don’t know if they still can/will but I would’ve liked to have seen a counter offer from MLBPA. There could be some actual middle ground, but the Union is still pissed off by the shitty tactics Manfred used last summer.

    Bad sign for 2022.

I’m with ya. Hopefully later this season it’ll even be kinda normal.

But man, the current MLB-Union relationship seems worse than 1994.

Both sides making more money than ever. Great time for a strike.

"Hey, we haven't pissed off the fan base this much since 1994. Let's do it again!"

The union is nowhere near as militant or strong as it was under Fehr. Tony Clark has alllowed the owners to get the upper hand.

There was a counteroffer. The Union said, we’ll stick with the existing agreement.
