Say what you want about Goff - he has two more playoff wins than Stafford. And had a passer rating over 100 in his most recent playoff run. 2 tds, 0 picks 65 completion pct. With a broken thumb.
And I realize Sean McVay gets good press and the Lions bad press based on their histories - but the narrative that Stafford will light it up in LA and Goff will sink like a rock in Detroit seems a little forced.

The thing is, the Lions have limited exposure to Goff's downsides and maximum exposure to his upsides if he can deliver any. He is a percentage bet for them. If he fails, well, they have multiple first round picks to erase him and only two years of the deal to eat. If he succeeds, or even if he is just competent on a consistent basis, they have a serviceable QB AND the picks. Stafford has to be real good for the Rams to do well in this deal. Goff doesn't.

Not sure what you mean, unless you’re referring to someone who started after Stafford took the reigns as primary starter. Orlovsky started the finale of the 0-16 2008 season.

Stafford started the 2009 opener vs. the Saints, and 9 other games in his rookie season.

I think Stafford can live up to his end.

What it boils down to was that the Lions help the Rams eat what would have been $40-million plus of dead money. The price, in essence, was first- and third-round picks. Figure that they swapped QBs with the Lions getting a first for taking a clear downgrade at the position. The other two picks were because the Lions will eat Goff's deal. Rams would have had more than $60 million in dead money had they dumped Goff altogether ... but "merely" in the $20 million range by making the deal.

He already answered with a photo on this page. It was Culpepper, who was one of three quarterbacks to start for the Lions in 2008.

Batch's last game with the Lions was in 2001. He was in his fifth year with the Steelers when Stafford was drafted.

Well, Kitna was really the starter. The others only played because he got hurt.

McVay was in an enviable position with Goff. It was believed that McVay was a genius and so if anything went wrong was due to Goff, rather than opponents figuring out McVay's offense. With Stafford if things go wrong McVay might get blamed.

If you’ve watched Goff play you’ll realize how awful he is.

Heard some comments about Stafford that his stats look good because he's throwing into soft coverage late in games because the Lions suck and are behind a lot. So I looked it up. His passer rating is actually highest in the first quarter and falls as the game progresses.

It can't be emphasized enough. Goff is an awful qb right now.

Maybe he needs a change of pace, and working now under Anthony Lynn will really turn things around. ;)
