Well, the Lions have two years to find out. If Goff either bombs out completely or recaptures Pro Bowl form, the decision will be easy.
It's the range in between which will be harder to figure out.

The Lions' risk in taking on Goff is actually pretty minimal since their building project won't be completed in two years anyway (and if it is, that likely means Goff has turned out to be an asset). And nothing is stopping them from taking a QB with one of the many first-round picks they'll have in that span.

I think the Lions made a good deal -- and so did the Rams.

Whether that's actually the case -- well, we'll see.

The Lions got 2 additional first round picks and a third, while in a rebuilding phase, when they had a qb who wanted out.
    They got a stopgap qb.
    Sounds win win

If Goff bombs for two years, their own draft pick will still be top-10, so they should still be able to get a QB if they need to. Otherwise they can use the picks to build up the lineup, which is what they really need.

As long as Lynn doesn't administer a shot into his chest.

Anyone else think the the NFL coaching hiring seasons seems more shallow than "The Bachelor?" Team announces opening, various assistants put in for various jobs with recs from their HCs, get flown in, GM interviews them, couple days later, GM introduces candidate to owner and boom - their married. Just seems kind of weird considering these "relationships" tend to last 2 to 3 years or more (at least on The Bachelor the couple can bail on each other as soon as the next season rolls around -as stipulated in the contract).
College coaching hires seem deeper. Don't know if most ADs have that "list" in their drawer in case they need to make a hire and NFL GMs and owners seem intent on finding "instant chemistry" - like a round of speed dating. *

BTW - actually participated in speed dating once for a story - kind of fun to meet folks and get a few "callbacks" for secondary interviews.

Carson Wentz is to Mitch Trubisky as the Ford Pinto is to the Edsel. You know the Edsel sucks but drive it anyway, but you don't figure that out with the Pinto until it's too late.

I can only assume the Bears don't have access to game film from the past year.

    Now ...

If Goff improves drastically in Detroit, is it because the trade was a wake-up call ... or is Sean McVay not the QB/offensive maestro as advertised?

I don't have issues with McVay, but found it funny that teams/owners/GMs were canning coaches and all but publicly admitting that they were looking for the next McVay. Envy is one thing. But was this trend worth that envy?

Bears say “but did you see how many bench reps he did at the combine?”

What is it about McVay do you have doubts about?
