I'm also confused about this. It's not a comedy in any way.

Also not sure about Ted Lasso's chances, with Schitt's Creek being such a darling at the Emmys and then getting noms for all the actors and show at the Globes. I'm ok with either one winning.

I know this is the TV thread but I feel completely disconnected from the movie side of the Globes this year. I think the only nominated one I've seen was Soul (which is AMAZING and streams on Disney+).

Peaky Blinders theme Red Right Hand is better than Sopranos theme song Woke Up This Morning

Casting Benito Martinez as the "former Mayor of LA" in Mr. Mayor might have been the most brilliant piece of casting ever for fans of The Shield.

And the show is probably the funniest "takedown" of progressives and their causes seen on TV in recent memory. Oddly enough, Holly Hunter and the daughter's school provide the biggest laughs.

But through ep. 5, I'm done with it. Two aides suck all the life out of the show with characters who have been done to death elsewhere - there is just zero originality there. And using the Eye of Tiger for a "training montage" ? Might be forgiveable from another writer, but Tina Fey is supposed to be sharp-witted and too much of the show - when Hunter or Danson aren't on screen, is just dull.

30 for 30, Al Davis v. NFL is premiering tonight (or tomorrow). I've got to believe its going to be at least very good given how fantastic most of the 30 for 30s have been (favs have been the Fab 5, Connors, and Marcus Dupree). Got my DVR ready.

Since I posted this, the last two episodes were much better. More of the vibe from the first season. Glad to see Jane Levy get a Golden Globe nomination.

Would like to hear what others thought of the Al Davis 30 for 30. I found it very disappointing - the talking CGI versions of Davis and Rozelle were just plain weird, and I didn't really learn anything apart from the interesting stuff about the holdout juror in the first Raiders v. NFL trial.

    It was OK.

For all the genuflecting to Davis, the Raiders have been one of the shittiest franchises in the NFL over the past 30 years. The guy fucked over the Oakland fans who made him rich, abandoned his new fans in Los Angeles, and then his kid fucked over the fans in Oakland a second time.

Yet I don't feel sorry for any of the fans in Abandonment LA and Abandonment Oakland II. They should have known who they were dealing with. Same with the Oakland city officials who gave away the farm to get them back.

Here's the thing about Al Davis; his only real asset and source of revenue was the Raiders whereas he was competing with all of the new owners who had outside sources to plow into their teams (Jones/Kraft/Snyder). He couldn't put much $$ into signing bonuses or a new stadium. Davis had the vision of what the league had but couldn't implement it himself without new revenue streams (luxury boxes). Look at what happened after he took on the NFL and got the relocation rules set aside, all those teams relocated in about 5 yrs to new venues, Rams/Colts/Cards/Chargers, those guys needed to bow to Davis' feet. Only now, in LV, did the Raiders finally get a new stadium with the promise of huge cash. Raiders went to LA and then back to Oakland but in both instances, those guys did NOT keep their promises of a state of the art stadium. Davis got screwed a couple of times (getting $10M from Irwindale was nice but not game-changing). Look at how Rozelle helped other teams get new stadiums but did nothing for the Raiders. That's what Davis was chaffing about.

I'm far from a Davis lover but give him his due. The doc did a nice job with that and the juror. I did not like the CGI stuff.

The same CEOs complaining about paying a living wage are lavishing expensive gifts on employees he worked with, no doubt.

I only watch occasionally, but do recall seeing one where an employee was bad-mouthing the customers so badly (in private), the boss outed himself to the site manager and got the employee fired.
