One of the prettiest perfects I've ever seen. So clean and powerful and artful. Untouched.

The final hard cut. He just waited and waited and waited and CUT IT!

 

So much of the work is done before the game. If there's anything Brady learned from Belichick it's manipulating the officials and putting them on the defensive. He was working those men (and women), telling them to "look for holds...KC's secondary holds a lot. They're gonna be holding. #35 and #32 are always being overly physical. Can't let the game get out of hand." And then you get 42 yards of penalties on a drive right before half that basically place the ball in the end zone.

Wasn't it the second Patriots-Rams Super Bowl where there was a story planted about the head ref that his crews called too much or too little of something and got them on the defensive right away? I know I remember something like that.

 

Great burst there by Fournette on the end. #35 for the Chiefs put himself in no man's land. Needed to force Fournette to go further outside.

 

Brady planted it in the heads of the refs to call offsides on a field goal on fourth and five.

Jesus fucking christ, whining about the refs on a night when the Chiefs couldn't score a damn touchdown all night.

 

Oh shut the fuck up, no one's whining about the officials. We all saw the same reasons for the blowout. But we can acknowledge some questionable calls in a game and on probably the most important drive.

 

I cannot believe the Chiefs not scoring a touchdown was only 35:1.

 

Find me an NFL game where there aren't some questionable calls.

 

Scotty Bowman used to attend the refs’ morning skate and harass them that they didn’t have the guts to call penalties on the Bruins/Flyers etc.

Pretty sure you couldn’t do that today. I think Scotty was a bit of a precursor to Belichick in terms of looking at every possible angle.

 

Eight of the Chiefs last 10 games before the Super Bowl were one-score games. The only two were when they sat everyone and last to the Chargers in the season finale and the AFC championship game. Those one-score games barely wins against the Panthers, Broncos and Falcons.

Sometimes it's hard to argue week to week and it is a sign of a good team winning close games, but these weren't the barn burners everyone thought they were. They were ripe in the right situation and the Bucs figured it out.

 

The Super Bowl is typically a lousy game that doesn't live up to the hype. The experts seemed to forget this. In the pregame analysis, every one of them predicted it would be 35-31, 38-35, 31-28. A close, exciting game. The best one was probably Romo saying that neither quarterback would let his team fall too far behind.

 

If Reid doesn't arrogantly and inexplicably call two timeouts, those penalties either never happen or are not a factor.
