Not that there's anything wrong with that.

But I would have been a totally non-gay Go-Go's groupie.

    Agree 100 percent.

She was more groundbreaking, and had a longer and more influential career, than the Go-Gos IMHO.

Neil Giraldo is the secret sauce that pushes her songs to the next level.

And there's nothing better than being nearly poisoned on beer and shots in the Buffalo Bills' RV lot the night before gameday singing Shadows of the Night on the karaoke machine with total strangers. We butcher our God Queen's music, but goddamn we love her so.

    Que?

Pat Benatar was a good singer with the world's most generic rock band backing her up. There's nothing groundbreaking there.

The Go-Go's were the first actual all-girl rock band of any note. (No one knew the Runaways.) In terms of influence it's not even close.

Longevity? The Go-Go's had three albums in their original run. Pat Benatar had three albums that anyone actually bought.

Pat Benatar is solidly in the Hall Of I Had That Cassette It Was Pretty Good.

To be the meat between a Belinda Carlisle and Kay Hanley sandwich with extra yayo.

I knew right after I posted it that "groundbreaking" wasn't the right word.

Still would pick Benatar over the Go-Gos.

Ah, well ... pay no mind to what I say. It doesn't matter anyway ... :)

She had 15 top-40 singles. Five of her albums sold at least a million. So your post is off by a couple. Not saying she should be in the HOF (although I would be more inclined to argue for her than against), but she's far more accomplished than you seem to think.

Heard Kathy Valentine on Marc Moran's podcast, highly recommend giving it a listen.

I had the first three albums. I was like 12 or 13 at the time and thought she was pretty cool. The high points were pretty good.

The low points were beyond abysmal. I realize there were some hits but if you go back and look over that discography... *shudder*.

Is it wrong I remember the drummer?

I mean Pat's got pipes and Neil and play.

Didn't Neal leave Pat for a while?

Anyway, the drummer was a hammer.

Pat Benatar is the greatest female pure vocalist in the history of rock ‘n’ roll. Nobody can touch those pipes. Songwriting is solid, lots of hits, backing band is locked in the pocket every night. Anyone who thinks she doesn’t belong in the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame should check themselves, then denounce themselves, and then take a polar-bear plunge in …
