Put more succinctly, I suppose it's Imposter Syndrome.

Maybe Biden doesn't have it. I could be wrong - often am - but I feel like I've seen a lot of it in journalism. It's usually the poor guy or gal doing about three jobs more than they should - overfunctioning, frankly - so two or three others can do 75% of theirs. Almost always, the overfunctioner has that lingering impression they're lucky to just be breathing the air of the newsroom. They come in guilty and work like a dog as their sentence. (Not that it has anything to do with anything here, but scientology, of all the religions, is good at finding and exploiting these people.)

Biden, to me, has a little of that feel. That he thinks he's an imposter. Always a pleaser. Always, just a little bit, like he doesn't belong. Says dumb stuff, fake cocky stuff, to make up for whatever the lack is there, and has a family that feeds nicely off of him, too.

I just think he's viewed as a vessel, is all. I think he was elevated - because he absolutely wasn't going to win - because he was viewed as a nice, amiable guy who will more or less be grandpa, the nice face on whatever whoever wants from him. And I've said more than once his presidency may come down to Harris, how she views her role, whether she's loyal to Biden's vision - to the extent he has a grand one - or substitutes her own and argues to him for it, because I struggle to see a scenario in which Biden tells her, or really anyone else, no.

Even on the first thing, the deputy press guy being a total asshole to a reporter, Biden chose grace over law. It was only a few days later, assuredly through nudging from harder-line around him, that the guy resigned. Biden's instinct is to go easy. He may be a guy who can be used.
