Limbaugh is more Lester Maddox than Carter.
On a scale of 1-100 with Hitler being a 1 and Ghandi being 95, Limbaugh is 20 and Carter is a 79

    From Taibbi on Rush:

Rush Limbaugh, Who Should Have Stayed Jeff Christie

Occasionally I would listen to Rush...and it always struck me that this was a person without much natural interest in politics. It was totally unsurprising that he tried to move into NFL commentary, since he clearly liked football. But what Rush clearly loved above all was being a performer, and he’d hit on a Faustian bargain that gave him a gigantic audience and the adulation of millions. All he had to do in return was have no morals at all and embrace a sociopathic programming concept.

The piece really sticks the landing.

Cavett is one of the the 3 best interviewers ever IMO.
Other two are Larry King and David Letterman.

I think Roy Firestone was a heck of a good interviewer. Stern as well.

I would have so much bloody fun with radio station(s) it's a joke. I've got to start playing the lottery again.

You can’t script that much bile, hate, loathing, rancor and contempt of everything not white male jerkoff material for 30 years. That shit came from the heart and gut. To get that aggrieved and aggravated everyday is a performance, but it’s all him. He doesn’t get off the hook because he found a great character to portray for $300 million in career earnings. It was Rush starring as Rush.

Why then is Meryl Streep so celebrated? Just an actor. Nicholson. Newman.

    All the world's a stage ...

It's far from the most important thing, but I'd say yes, it is relevant, if we're taking in the full picture of a man's life. His history of admirable work since leaving the presidency might give the impression that he never grappled with the same compromises all politicians face, or that he always answered them in a way he would be proud of now. Jimmy Carter was smart enough that he had to know exactly who Lester Maddox was and what he was about.
