That's great it starts with an earthquake
    Birds and snakes and aeroplanes
    Lenny Bruce is not afraid

    Johnny's in the basement
    Mixing up the medicine
    I'm on the pavement
    Thinking bout the government

    Madman drummer bummers
    And Indians in the summer
    With the teenage diplomat.

    Come on come on,
    Come on come on,
Come on it's such a joy,
Come on it's such a joy,
Come on and take it easy,
Come on and take it easy
    Take it easy
    Take it easy
    Everybody's got something to hide
Except for me and my monkey.

    Hallucinate, desegregate
    Mediate, alleviate
    Try not to hate
    Love your mate
Don't suffocate on your own hate
    A one world state

You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Too much love drive a man insane
    You broke my will
    But what a thrill

How young are you? How old am I? Let's count the rings around my eyes.

They hung a sign up in our town: "If you live it up, you won't live it down".

The ashtray says you were up all night.

    "Times were good
She never thought about the future, she just did what she would
    Oh but she really cared
About her music, it all seemed so important then ... "

Have you ever met a girl that you tried to date
But a year to make love she wanted you to wait?

Flew in from Miami Beach, B.O.A.C.
Didn’t get to bed last night
On the way the paper bag was on my knee
Man, I had a dreadful flight

Vernon'll meet me when the BOAC lands
The keys to the MG will be in his hands
Adjust to the drivin' and I'm on my way
It's all on the right side in Montego Bay

    They call you lady luck
But there is room for doubt
At times you've had a very unladylike way
    Of running out

I always heard "paperback," not paper bag. As in, you know, reading on a flight.

That’s funny because the first few times I heard the song I thought it was “Paper Bag Writer”.
