Wouldn't surprise me if Brad Stevens gets the boot over the all-star break.

It would probably be a smart move for Ainge, getting out in front of things before the owner starts wondering how the Celtics turned The Next NBA Dynasty into a team scrapping for home court in the playoffs.

Bradley Beal wrapped up and thought he was going to get fouled on that inbounds with 10 seconds to go. That was comical.

Ownership loves Stephens as far as can be told.

I'm not sure who could have done more with those rosters during his tenure. Prime Popovich? Spoelstra? Stevens isn't blameless but I'm not sure he's holding this group back, either.

Ainge has not done him any favors, though. The roster is very top-heavy but not in the way the Warriors used to be, i.e., two all-timers and three borderline HOFers.

The best and worst thing to happen to them was the Nets trade. It seems like the front office expects to get over like that on every deal but the reality is there isn't always someone on the other end of the line willing to commit franchise malpractice.

They've lost Irving, Hortford and Heyward for various reasons, and haven't really replaced any of their production fully. I don't think they're as good as a conference final team - it's probably a bit of a mirage caused by how the brackets shook out - but they probably aren't a .500 team if Marcus Smart is healthy. They're a good example of why it's (usually) always better to have one great player and average to above-average pieces at the other spots, vs. average to good at all positions. If you assume that the All-Star game rosters are roughly the Top 30 of the league each year, Tatum and Brown are more in the back 15 of that range than the front 15.

Tatum, while still a real good player, has not progressed to the big star status everyone here assumed he would have reached by now. That is the crux of the Celtics' dilemma.

The Kings were up 8 with 1:09 left. AND at the line with 2 free throws AND possession because its a flagrant.

    And still lost.

The Sacramento Kings saw the Nuggets' 4 on 1 fast break of last week, and Bradley Beal's clown act from earlier Sunday.. and said "hold my beer".

I was watching that game. With a minute left the Hornets play by play guy was asking if they would be better off taking out the starters and admitting this was out of reach.

    That last minute was nuts.
