On another economic note. One day after lifting the tariff on single-malt scotch, Biden has lifted the 25 percent tariff on French (and other EU) wine. Since my daughter sells French wine to US customers (wholesalers), she was real happy. She got the Times update on her phone at like 7 p.m. Bordeaux time and spent the next three hours emailing and calling her customer list. She noted her competitors were likely at dinner.

I know it’s semantics and a technicality but there is difference between voting against a minimum wage hike as an amendment to any other bill as just strictly being opposed to it

Yes, because the Senate is stupid. A standalone minimum wage hike would need 60 votes to end a filibuster. The covid package only needs 51 because it's under budget reconciliation. BTW, the delay in the Senate today isn't even Manchin's fault. It's Schumer's. It's horrendous leadership malpractice to move ahead with a major bill when you're not sure, as in, have the personal word of all 50 of 'em, that you have the votes. If Manchin told him he was cool and then reneged, well that's another story and would pretty much mean there will be no legislation in this Congress.

Horndogs around the world now wish they’d thought of the “Hit my DMs if OnlyFans scammed you” ploy.
