The summer of 1965 was just an incredible time to be listening to the radio. The British Invasion was in full swing, plus Beach Music and Surf Music. I rode the bus across Houston to summer school and this was instantly recognizable, even though at 7, I had no idea what Mick was singing about.

Wait, I can improve on that.

    Memorable? From the first riff?

    This one.

Dad bought an Ampex cassette deck and a few cassettes to go with it, so the first pop music I grooved to before the age of 10 was the London cast album of Hair. Which explains a lot about me.

The deck had a two-mike setup, which helped get me started in broadcasting.

This isn't from my youth, but I rarely hear it without reminders of the New York Rangers' 1994 Stanley Cup run... even though, like Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight," it has nothing whatsoever to do with sports.

That video holds up surprisingly — and somewhat depressingly — well.
