It's just not a football coach situation. How many wealthy actors, producers and businessmen for time immemorial have had the trophy wife or girlfriend?

Haven't seen it anywhere official yet, but lots of rumor swirling that Miles is out at KU.

This is the best thing for KU. He was a disastrous hire and was going absolutely nowhere. I want to say each of their last 4 hires have been worse than one before because it'd be funny if that were true, but it doesn't quite bear out. Miles was probably a worse hire than Beaty, but Weis and Gill were both really, really fucking bad. Was Miles worse than them? I'm not sure how anyone could be "worse." It's amazing to strike out so spectacularly four times in a row, though.

It's not THAT hard to be average at football. It doesn't take 5 years to see progress. A lot of programs can see it in two years with the right coach. So no matter how bad they've been, KU is just 2-3 years from a middle-of-the-pack conference finish and a mediocre bowl game. That KU was still dreadful after two years of Miles, IMO, said enough. They're just saving themselves 1-2 years by getting rid of him now. The best thing they can do is keep swinging and eventually make some contact.

Who do you get to take that job? Any high level coordinator or G5 coach with good prospects is going to regard it as career suicide. And some of the retreads aren’t going to be so eager to jump if they think you’re going to try and claw back cash on dubious grounds like they did with David Beatty.

Seems like they'll be tied up in lawsuits with Miles, too, if KU had any inkling this stuff existed when he was hired.

Yeah, I don't know. That's the problem with my "Even KU is only a few years away" theory.

If you're trying to hire the next Matt Campbell, maybe you're not going to be able to get the Matt Campbell who's already logged some good seasons at Toledo. (Campbell, btw, took dogshit Iowa State from 3-9 his first year to 8-5. Mostly my point is everyone acts like a coach needs 3-4 years to show progress. If you haven't seen at least some progress after two years, you're wasting your time.)

My advice this time: Don't under hire the big-name retread or the young, hot-shot recruiter. Hire someone who can turn slow Kansas linebackers not into All Americans, but into 5th-year seniors who get an NFL camp invite and cut in August. Don't need 5-star miracles or 4-star kids who got suddenly dropped by the SEC. Need 3-star kids who will be in the program 4-5 years. No shortcuts. No coaching wunderkind. No "wait until he shows that HS kid his Super Bowl ring!!!"

They've been trying to take a shortcut since Mangino was fired and they've managed one of the worst decades in the history of the game.

And if you're not heading into Year 3 with some reason for optimism, be prepared to swing again.

    Oh this is going swimmingly.

Protesting students block exits at LSU football ops after school's response to Husch Blackwell report

These players rightfully wanted people to respect their protests last summer. Respect needs to be a two-way street.

I don't think but one or two football players had cars when I attended school, a rival of LSU.
