The Vikings main problem has been being in the same division as the Lions. Even the Vikes "bad years" they were 6-10. (Actually they've finished with fewer than six wins three times since their first SB appearance and one season with five wins and a tie). Have they ever had a top 5 pick in the draft? Even after a couple of three win seasons they traded their top first rounder.

Wasn't Ron Yary at top 5 pick? I could be completely off base, though.

In 1968, yeah. Top overall pick - I was talking since the team made the SB for the first time. They've always been "kinda good."

Fun fact: Just 14 overall No. 1 picks have made the Hall of Fame. None since 1997 (Orlando Pace). Peyton, drafted a year later will break the drought. Then I guess Eli - after that...

Matt Kalil and Chris Doleman, both #4 overall, are the only Vikings picks in the top five since Ron Yary. Save for the Les Steckel year and Leslie Frazier's first year, they really do manage to avoid ever being truly awful.

    That’s a catchy slogan
“Vikings — We suck but not as bad as the Lions”

Weird, since playing without them was the No. 1 factor in the Chefs losing the Super Bowl.
