Do the Saints have the resources to trade for him?

REPORT: Saints restructure Taysom Hill’s contract

The Saints restructured Taysom Hill's contract. This one has some weird salary cap voodoo in it. The numbers on the deal actually say four years, $140 million, but it is all voidable. What it really does is save them some cap space for this season.

Right now you know somebody high up at ESPN is debating scrapping their entire bracketology show to go wall-to-wall with Drew Brees coverage.

A fake contract? Who would actually give him $35 mil a year?

So what's the deal with the timing of Brees' announcement? New league year, gets some extra cash? Cap savings for the Saints?

What resources? Aren't they asking for a ton of draft picks? Have the Saints traded their 1st round picks for the next three
    seasons?

15th anniversary of when he signed with the Saints.

I believe they have their own picks, but that means the 28th overall selection this year. That is a good bit less valuable than what they could get if a team like the Jets decides to move on Watson.

Free agency starts Wednesday, so this is the week for all of the teams to fish or cut bait on their high-priced veterans. There are probably some financial factors playing into it, but I'd also assume it's to give the Saints some kind of final direction on what they need to do with their roster when free agency opens.

    Can't.

    1) Not enough draft capital.
    2) What players might the Saints offer in addition to the picks?
    3) Deshaun costs more AAV than Drew Brees. Given that the Saints are grossly over the cap, who else are they going to dump to make room for Watson? Too late to bring back Hoby Brenner? Archie Manning? Rickey Jackson? (Two LBs can't be brought back these days ... )

Shams beat Schefter by 4 minutes.

Makes sense. No cap room, two quarterbacks who are already accustomed to Sean Payton's offense and expectations. Given the circumstances, probably a best-case scenario.
