    What happened? Isn’t shame cultural? Having an affair with babysitter may be shameful to some but impregnating 3 different women and not being in a relationship with any of them may be considered shameless. Imposing shame on another may be racism.

    I don't know. Tacky and gauche will always be with us but compared to the past, people do have more shame these days.

    I mean, at the turn of the 20th century, you could find brothels on almost every corner of any American city. In 1950, a black man could be lynched down south and the whole town would pose for a picture around his body.

    It's a pretty low baseline but progress, I suppose, is progress.
