Super Bowl on Sunday. No logical reason why it shouldn't be Saturday.

Podcasts that always start with five minutes of happy talk. Get to the sports point of the podcast. I can take that every once in awhile, but most of the time I'm interested in the sports, not your Seinfeld-esque take on traffic/family/food/movies/current events.

Well, other than Sunday being the NFL's staple day of the week.

Now, Saturday as the college football national title game? THAT makes sense.

True, but the NFL playoffs are on Saturday and college games are long past Saturdays in February.

As others mentioned, gambling ... I'm all for the action, and cool how it's even created some jobs for old journos, but it's amazing how clueless many of the talking heads are about it. If I'm looking for any kind of info or angle, I'm sure as hell not getting it from ESPN.

MLB is starting that with rules changes to get desired outcomes. For 150 years the number of players in the field have been the same, and the bases have been the same. If a team wants 4 OFers fine, you only have 3 IF. There’s going to be a rule banning shifts because players would rather ground out to the SS playing on the 1st base side of second, rather than get a hit by going the other way. Hit the opposite way and they’ll play you that way. Dead pull power hitter who can’t take a double to opposite gap? Not a major leaguer.

I have a serious peeve when they ignore the fact that lines and odds are about money, not predictions. So a few years ago if Tiger was the favourite, they all jerked off like he was destined to win.

So true. Along the same lines of not understanding markets, reporters/broadcasters who say "tickets to XX championship are selling for $20,000 online!" No, that usually just means someone listed their tickets on Stubhub for a pipe-dream price.

This reminds me of a thing that’s high on my list of sports pet peeves but not as big as too much sports analysis and talk: sports award shows that are emulating entertainment awards shows. The NFL will absolutely use its Saturday night awards show as a reason not to move the Super Bowl to Saturday, but that show — along with the ESPYs and the NHL awards show — needs to die. Drag the awards out for several days like baseball and get more free publicity than you do if you roll the whole thing up in one night.

This is so laughable. Not a major leaguer? Must be some real dumb teams out there and I’m sure these teams haven’t analyzed the simpleton logic of “just go the other way”.

I should just go down the thread and like everything. It reads like my Christmas list to the Sports Gods.
