It’s based on revenue. They can’t just arbitrarily drop it.

I get that part, but it wouldn't have been the worst good-faith gesture to just leave it where it was. Lot of guys will be signing one-year low-ball deals this year as a result. Many of them likely will deal with career-altering injuries in the upcoming season. Not long after which the owners will start cashing $150mm annual checks.

The league and NFLPA actually negotiated a higher amount than it should have been based on revenue for this year. I think the original calculation would have been something like $160 million, more than $20 million less than what they ended up putting in place.

It's a mathematical formula. League had less sharable revenues last season, so cap goes down. Next winter, it will go way up. PS: Many of those vets signing one-year deals were delighted to do so. They'll be free agents again come bonanza time.

The new TV deal doesn't kick in until the 2023 season. Current TV deals end after the 2022 season, except ESPN's, which expires after the 2021 season. ESPN signed a one-year deal for 2022 to match up with the networks so they're all the same starting in 2023.

And the cap goes up by a large margin and players cash then.

Cap goes back up in 2022 because live gate returns. For the bonanza, teams will just backload contracts in various creative ways.

Per the afternoon Houston TV news, there are now seven civil suits filed against Watson.

LOL, if he could meet with them beforehand he might be able to determine which ones will become murderers or commit other felonies.

Bengals release Atkins - he seems like a guy a contender would be interested in scooping up on a one or two year deal, see how much he has left.
