Weird that Newsom is getting recalled and DeSantis is being praised as a visionary because he "covered the spread."

California has a very low signature threshold for triggering a recall. Newsom isn't really in much trouble.

And remember, Florida fired a data scientist for refusing to manipulate Covid numbers.

Your graphic compares cases, not deaths.

True, but that was my intent from the get-go. Because cases is a better determination of how many people got it, how badly it spread, how well the shutdowns did/didn't work etc.

Deaths typically follow a similar arc but are subject to other variables --- age of population, general health of population, effectiveness of treatments at the time, quality of hospitals, etc. California comes in as the 5th "healthiest" state, Florida 18th. California is the 5th youngest state, Florida's the 2nd oldest. So all other things being equal, California SHOULD do a little better WRT deaths.

50 states ranked from healthiest to unhealthiest.

The bottom line in all this is that California's and Florida's numbers are running as close to parallel as you can get --- they are ranked 25th/27th in the nation, right smack dab in the middle, nothing to brag about, nothing to hang one's head in shame about.

Yet one state shut down practically everything. The other shut down practically nothing. Unemployment rate is twice as high in the former. The latter is consistently shamed. If that doesn't make one scratch his head and wonder . . .

My grand-mother, who is 97 was hesitant to get the vaccine since she doesn’t leave her house at all, and is just ready for “god” to take her, finally got her vaccine after a lot of convincing. So relieved. She lost her husband of 63 years due to Covid last May. So this makes me so happy.

No hold on a minute, my friend. Florida did not just wake up on March 20, 2021, to discover it has an aging population, to its surprise.
