None of that makes Watson guilty now. He may be. It certainly doesn't look good, but the league can say there is a precedent for situations like this. They could also suspend Watson indefinitely pending resolution of the legal matter. That there are no criminal charges pending actually complicates matters. I know some courts are still catching up. It could be a long while before Watson's legal issues are resolved.

I live in Houston now, so I'm well aware of who Buzbee is. And yeah, sexual assault is wrong, no shit. But like murder, there are degrees to it, and from what has come out so far, I don't think Watson is in the "drugging and raping women" category. His behavior as alleged is still gross and despicable to me, and I'd personally be fine with a lifetime ban from the NFL if it's true, but I don't think that's going to happen.

If Watson was a third stringer he'd likely be history by now. He's a top five/ten QB. There are a number of teams willing to take the PR hit, especially if it meant they could get him on the cheap, 13 accusers or not.

  4. Williams was 31 and we get Bush back and still have Highsmith. Alualu is 34.
Fuck Nelson. He’s adequate at best.
keep in mind that defense had 11 No. 1 draft picks on it. There was no way to keep it intact.
yeah they still have offensive issues. But they are also ahead of the game as far next year’s cap from what I understand.
Not sure there is a QB in the draft to replace Roethlisberger. Rudolph isnt the future and they don’t have the ability to trade and/or acquire a proven star (Watson, Wilson, Prescott, etc.).
oline and rb issues can be addressed via draft.
Despite the tough schedule and vastly improved AFC North, they’ll be ok.

The problem with losing Nelson is they don't have an adequate replacement behind him. They also don't have as good of a pass rush to protect the corners as they did with Dupree. I like Highsmith, but he is nowhere close to Dupree, at least not yet. Throw in a lack of depth pretty much everywhere on defense and that unit is more likely to be what we saw during the 1-4 stretch near the end of the season than during the 11-0 run to start it.

RE: Watson I was thinking of the Roethlisberger situation as well. I expect Watson will open camp with the Texans like I thought he would do before all this came down. His trade value is shit and he's not in much of a position to talk about how unhappy he is with the Texans. That will be an unholy alliance for at least another season.

Pair Watson's predicament with this guy:

Ex-Missouri Gov., Who Resigned Amid Sex Abuse Claims, Enters GOP Senate Race | HuffPost

What does this show about the USA? That somehow we, as a society, have lost our way. We're willing to give the "popular" a pass that we wouldn't otherwise give. If your local barber were facing 14 different accusers of the same sexual battery, he's done, "game over (Bill Paxton voiceover)". Same if his hairstylist were accusing him of abuse during an extra-marital affair and for wrongfully sending out inappropriate photos.

Yet, its almost a shrug for Watson and Greitens. So wrong.

Well, Greitens did have to resign as governor of a state. And Watson's case is still in its very early stages. The former didn't escape consequences and the latter's fate is yet to be determined.

This is probably more for a MeToo thread, but I do wonder if the "resignation" was penance enough. It's one of the deals with Cancel Culture I still can't figure out. Oprah doesn't have a couch any more (well she probably has a few, we just don't see them on TV) - I guess there is always Dr. Phil or Betty Ford.
Shoot, Mike Tyson did time and he was uncancelled after a cameo in The Hangover. Pee Wee Herman did a bit on an MTV movie awards show. It's an odd deal. Is it just different now?

Two can be a coincidence and three a pattern … what’s this make it?

We're well past the reflective point. The USA decided to put a guy in the most powerful role in the world months after he proudly admitted he'll grab a woman by the pussy if she isn't feeling his vibe. So the message has been sent loud and clear. And when women start going Lorena Bobbitt on men on a regular basis it'll probably be justified.

Mike Tyson was never canceled. But he actually did time. He paid some form of a punishment for his transgressions. I get that a two-year prison sentence doesn't seem long but most people, myself included, probably wouldn't survive 90 minutes in prison.
