You mean where he won a Cup and a Vezina (and should have won another)? Yeah, his long career in DC was really "shitty."

Several years ago, some outlet (the Post, I think?) did a story on goalies who have to do a deuce during a game, Holtby was a big voice in that.

 

Also, one of those behind the scenes specials a few years back had Trotz and a ref mic'ed up. Trotz is bitching at the end of the game and the ref says, "You were on the power play all fucking night. It isn't our fault you couldn't score."

I was pissed, too, but that made me laugh

 

Got it - but he dug DC. He's nowhere near the goalie he was but I wish he was still a Cap. Good guy, involved in the community, marched in the Pride parade every year.

 

that was my favorite move by Rutherford. Ever. Hell of a talent. Weird dude.

My son has a huge mancrush on Holtby and is still salty. But there's no question he's lost something. His Vezina year and the year after, you can make a case he was the best goalie in hockey. Starting sliding from there. Was AWFUL in the second half of the Cup season but pretty solid once he got in there for Grubauer in the playoffs. Caps faced two elimination games in that run, against Tampa, and gave up no goals. Maybe the two best games the Caps have ever played.

Beginning to believe that.

Haven't kept up with Schmidt recently. But Boyd has always been a borderline big-league player and Beagle and Holtby need a mirror to see their best years.

I still have the Jay Beagle bobblehead I got at a blood drive, with the phone number on it of the woman who was handing them out. A brief but fun relationship.
