It would be awfully hard, as a young player, to make the same observations OOP has and then decide to sign with the Pirates long-term. Even if they backed up a Brinks truck, you know you're going to be the only investment they're going to make.

Saw Hayes at Pirate City two years ago, crushing baseballs. Everybody stopped to watch when he stepped to the plate. He's the real deal. Which means he'll be a star for somebody else.

Oneil Cruz is another kid who impressed me, but he's a 6-7 SHORTSTOP and now has the baggage of the off-season fatal car crash and DUI in the DR.

I have to say I really enjoy outofplace’s pirate rants.

That wasn't more mocking than a rant.

Awkwardly leaping above a fence for a ball that he came nowhere close to catching in a meaningless exhibition. What a horrible blow to the White Sox, who don't have Plan B.

Those mediocre PECOTA projections for the White Sox might actually be accurate after all.

Guy has decent spring, realizes he’s too good for the Pirates:

Jack Leiter threw another seven no-hit innings tonight against Missouri to run his hitless streak to 16 innings. He struck out 10, walked two, and was pulled after seven innings and 101 pitches. Two relievers finished the game. The combined no-hitter was broken up with two outs in the ninth.
