Haven't heard much of his preaching about the nature of kids and parents today, come to think of it.

I’m surprised more schools aren’t trying to ride the analytics wave, the way NFL teams wanted every Sean McVay clone they could find for a couple of years there. Make an offer to a couple of guys who know how to work the numbers but are stuck as a No. 3 on some NBA bench and see if you can’t get an early adopter boost.

I got halfway into that story and realized that I really didn't remember the details. That's why I kinda glossed over that part. It was his keeling over to stall the clock that was the point.

I said at the time that it was a good hire, and he has better than I expected. I'm far from a 'Bama fan but that team is well coached and a pleasure to watch.

Well, whoever UT hires is going to have to deal with the "Eyes of Texas" mess. That does not look like it will go away anytime soon.

Per the argument of best programs without a title: You may very well be on to something here.
Most Final Fours without NCAA title: Oklahoma, Houston and Illinois tied at the top with five; LSU and K State (really) with four; Texas, Iowa and Memphis with three.
Most NCAA tourney appearances without a title: Notre Dame with 36; Texas with 35; Oklahoma and Temple with 33.
Most NCAA tourney wins without a title: Oklahoma 43; Purdue 42; Notre Dame 38.
Best W% (all games) without a title: Memphis .6678; Western Kentucky .6603; Gonzaga .6602.

Frank Martin is waiting on Jim Larranaga to retire so he can go back to Miami. Curious if the interest from the Hurricanes is mutual.

    Terrific point.

Regarding Shaka Smart, I humbly ask why he went to Texas in the first place. Full disclosure: I don't follow college basketball closely. Was it just money?

There was something he clearly liked about Austin. The money didn't hurt, of course, but he was looking for fit for both what he wanted to do with a program as well as somewhere he felt his family would like.

I know Debbie Yow offered him the NCSU job in Raleigh. I have zero doubt that other ADs tried to get him to leave VCU a lot earlier than when he finally did depart for Texas.

Texas is now an even better gig than it was when Shaka took it. New arena coming in 18 months. Kansas potentially due for a dip and maybe -- just maybe -- an NCAA tournament ban.
The Eyes are worth watching. Will they make a serious effort to hire another Black coach? Do they even have to? If Beard wants the gig, it'll be done by Monday. And nobody can really complain. The guy's a helluva coach.
One thing I presume they won't have to worry about is a buyout of Smart, who appears to have made a pre-emptive move.

Marquette has to be giddy. They got a known and still respected guy. Didn't have to settle for some unknown assistant. Hope this works out for him.

The BJ Tyler dunk at UConn whole Penders was there is still one of the sickest dunks I’ve ever seen.
He made Donyell Marshall his personal fuck bitch at 6’1.
