NBA could lock the playoff roster on trade deadline day if they wanted. They could also limit the number of new pickups to 1 per team or impose a greater salary cap/luxury cap hit for buyouts.

They don’t want to because they like the interest which they buyout market generates.

The playoffs don't start for another two months. Also, while this generates hype and interest, the actual effect on the court is pretty minimal. Remember when people got hot and bothered about the Cavs acquiring Deron Williams and Andrew Bogut? Gasol to the Bucks? Markieff Morris last year for the Lakers "worked" I guess. P.J. Brown to the Celtics is like the one example everyone remembers positively.

Drummond could be good for the Lakers, except that he shoots FT so awful he's not going to play in the last five minutes of any playoff game. Griffin can't stay healthy - it's probably 50/50 that he makes it to the end of the season in a playable form for Brooklyn. Aldridge is the other popular buyout guy this year. All three seem like guys you can't play against good teams, because they'll get roasted on the defensive end. (Well, unless you're the Lakers or Brooklyn and your other guys are healthy, but in the case, you can have pretty much anyone with a pulse standing near your All-NBA players and win.)

Yes, but players are putting their money where their mouth is; from what I read Aldridge gave up $7.25M to play for the Nets on a min. contract. I think Griffin gave back significant monies (eight figures?) for his release. That's a good thing for league interest (the movement, not giving back.)

Very curious to see what delights await Drummond on the defensive end against Jokic.

Andre can rebound and pick and roll but can’t do a lot of anything else

Mentioned in this thread before, but an old co-worker is obsessed with the Celtics grabbing Drummond, and has been for years. His argument used to be that the Celtics "needed someone big to defend Embiid!" He kind of shut up about it when I pointed out that Embiid beats the shit out of Drummond, but he's been chirping about it more this year because Drummond was going to be released. Before Drummond, his obsession was Greg Monroe, who actually made it to Boston and couldn't stay on the floor. Same with Kanter.

Yeah, not a lot to see here with the buyout additions. Drummond can't play defense for shit, which is a bad thing for an immobile big man.

The Nets signed Blake Griffin, who can't play anymore, and LaMarcus Aldridge, who was deemed expendable by a team that will very likely make the playoffs.

They are decent pickups on the assumption that they will not actually be expected to do anything other than let the real players rest and not kill the team while they're on the floor.

If that’s true, wow not a fan Draymond.

No, it's the typical vaguely race-baiting shit he normally posts.
