Thoughts and Prayers: The Religion Thread

I get a worrisome feeling the new fraternal organizations for 21st century America are these Facebook groups that get people riled up to go down to the state capital and raise hell. That’s the most involvement many of these folks get.

 

I ask as earnestly as I can, and if anyone can give me the magic bullet answer, I'll send you something nice at Christmas:
(Insert whatever organization you want.)

How do you get a young man to join and continue attending a group of old men who come in once a month, go through some prescribed ritual and time-honored ceremony, read the mail, talk about how things used to be, question how they get new blood, wrap things up, and go home?

 

Is this about church or the Elks Club?

 

When it comes to much-needed new membership, does it matter?

 

Maybe our expectations about engagement have changed?
