After the first season in Seattle, people in Central New York were wondering if they made a mistake.

Now? They're wondering if they avoided one.

Quin Snyder, now that he's rehabilitated in the pros, will probably be a target for Duke when K retires.

I think Woodsen got hired for a number of reasons.

    1. Michigan seems to have hit a home run with the Juwan Howard hire.

    2. Quinn Buckner pushed hard for Woodsen. And Buckner is on the IU Board of Trustees so what he thinks is important.

Pat Forde wrote in a column that at the introductory press conference that Woodson has presented as someone who could "heal" the fan base. I can see Knight reconciling with the program and now coming to the games, surrounded by Knight era greats. And this would make a lot of people in the state very happy.

I can see Buckner creating a consensus to bring in Woodsen. One group would be those who think it the program reconciles with Knight and the fan base that still longs for him. They believe that is sufficient to turn IU into the ultimate destination for local recruits and champions will follow. The second group were those who don't believe. But they have been forced to admit the Howard hire seems to have succeeded and nothing else IU has tried has worked.

So what the hell. Let's try Woodsen.

I don't think so. If Snyder is still enjoying success in the NBA why would he want to go to Duke? NBA money is good, he does not have to deal with recruiting and succeeding a legend is damn near impossible. And if Synder is not winning in the NBA then he would not be a candidate.

Given how shitty and frail Knight looked two years ago when they honored him I doubt he’s seen in public ever again.

If GMac gets the job, does that mean all of those dorks who took bus trips from Scranton to watch him play will now do the same to watch him coach?

No. He became radioactive to the NCAA and Division I ADs after his stint with Mizzou.

I should have been more clear. I could see Duke taking a run at him, but if I'm Snyder I'm not even entertaining it.

    Or Woodson :)

Yeah, the Buckner push can't be understated.

I know he turned down Indiana flat, but if I'm Carolina I make a quiet inquiry to Brad Stevens. Carolina is 3x the job Indiana is, and Chapel Hill is a much nicer place to live than Bloomington or Boston.

If he's ever gonna return to college coaching (and that could be a long shot, I know), no better place or job.

Not sure I would call Ewing a success, even a relative one. He's 62-59 in four seasons and only is above .500 because they caught fire at the BET in a down year for the conference (sixth in KenPom rankings, down from their usual third). They went 8-2 down the stretch, sure, but only two of those wins were over NCAA tournament teams and then they got completely exposed by Colorado. Their top big man -- who basically dragged them into the tournament and whom Ewing said could one day develop into the best center in the country -- has transferred (every team is affected by transfers these days but this move was utterly unexpected). They're probably staring down another .500 season, at which point it's time to start wondering whether it's truly time to completely cut the cord from the Big John era (a lot of their fans argued that it should have been done after JT3 was fired).

And with St Mike and Boeheim on the way out, being the coach with the best reputation in the ACC is worth a couple of calls a games.
maybe recruiting HS kids to play in college isn’t as terrible as dealing with NBA players, their contracts and off court issues.
