Know who won't be triggering the carousel? Bill Self, recipient of a lifetime contract from KU that is one giant, middle finger pointed at precisely a 79-degree angle toward the East.
ESPN story doesn't mention the enforcement issue or the FBI until the final paragraph or two.

A couple bad seasons and/or NCAA probation and the KU Regents will declare him dead.

I never understand administrators painting themselves into a corner like this. Canzano is writing today that OSU should give Wayne Tinkle a new six-year deal. That's crazy. He's been a good coach and this run was spectacular but OSU was one missed free throw from being 14-13 and full of grumbling alumni.

Pay the man, no question. But he's got three years left and gets an automatic year added on with a tournament season. That's plenty of security.

Exactly. How much does history change in our view of NC State hoops if Pepperdine makes a free throw or two in the opening round of the 1983 tournament?

Dane Suttle, 84 percent free throw shooter, missed the front end of 1-and-1s twice at the end. If he makes one, nobody ever heard of Valvano (RIP).

    Read carefully, folks:

Kansas announces lifetime contract for Self

All Kansas did was hand Self a perpetual, five-year rollover contract. As usual, it was all about the semantics.

Is a five-year rollover deal tricky to pay off should the folks in Lawrence ever want to dump Self? Yes. But, before you consider it the most obscene, over-the top move we've seen, consider that Paul Hewitt had a six-year rollover contract at Georgia Tech:

    Consuming The Paul Hewitt Contract

Bottom line: I am NOT endorsing these sorts, and I am endorsing any possible rules infractions in Lawrence. But this is far from groundbreaking and unique.

That's one way to look at it. Let me present another.

Ralph Sampson had two shots at this team in the span of roughly three weeks. He didn't get it done either time.

    Also true.

And I remember in between Pepperdine and Virginia, UNLV dropped a very winnable tournament game against the Wolfpack.

In terms of timing, it almost has to be unique. Nobody gives a coach a new, rollover deal while that coach is still under NCAA investigation.
