Gonzaga made a great play by not calling a time out after the tying basket. Go right on offense, he had plenty of time for a 45-footer. Call a TO and they probably don't get the ball past halfcourt because he can't catch the in-bounds pass heading downcourt.

Carolina/Georgetown was great even though an odd play sealed the game. There were just so many flat out basketball legends on that court. Ewing, Floyd, Thompson, Smith, Worthy, Perkins, Jordan.

    Forgot Roy Williams.

I got the feeling that UCLA played about as good as it could and still lost. I thought Gonzaga played at a really high level too. Just a tremendous game.

Exactly. UCLA coach reminds his team how to defend if there is a timeout.

UCLA has two great players. Probably just as good as the top two for the Zags.

We talking just NCAA tournament? If nit
That wasn’t bad defense. They didn’t want to foul and the shot they allowed was a 40-plus-foot desperation prayer on the run. You think Suggs called that glass?

Even Few called it “a lucky shot” in his postgame TV interview.

Pet peeve of mine. Make him slow down somehow or spin him when he is dribbling. Don’t just let him run up the court.

Mick Cronin didn't have a timeout, so calling one would have done more to help them set up than it would have for Gonzaga IMO.

Additionally, Mark Few said in the postgame presser that he usually doesn't call timeout in that situation. He had one or two left if he did want to. But they were ready to go. Not to say that UCLA wasn't, but Gonzaga knew it had 3.3 seconds and played like it. Never panicked ... just a quiet, understated confidence to their game and their team.

Nevada-Las Vegas, which hadn't been in a close game during the 1990-91 season until Duke in the semis, panicked. Gonzaga never did.

UCLA has no one better than Jalen Suggs, and I would have said this even if he hadn't hit the game winner. This isn't even close.

Great game. I kept waiting for UCLA to do something to blow the game. The Bruins really didn't.
The critical play was the blocked dunk, followed by the long bounce pass dunk for Gonzaga. A foul could have been called on the dunk, I think the defender bodied him -- he knocked him to the court-- but it is a non-call I'm not going to cry about.
I wondered when was the last time Mark Few actually had to coach the final two minutes of a game.
I went to USC, but I covered UCLA for 13 years (1983-95), so I have some roots there. Great job by the Bruins.
Ah, I also covered the WCC those same years. Gonzaga was dogshit.

Box score listed 8,131 as attendance. Probably should have had a 6 in front that in normal conditions.

And if he misses it, ya gots a second overtime. Nothing to lose.
