Not sure what you're trying to say, Scout.

I like RBIs insomuch they tell which batters tend to put the ball in play and whose balls in play score runners on base.

I want a batter in the lineup who tends to put the ball in play and whose balls in play score runners on base.

RBIs aren't the end-all be-all. BABiP with runners on base (or in scoring position) is probably the better stat than OPS with runners on base (or in scoring position).

And it's important to acknowledge that not all RBIs are the same, or even important.

Joe Carter had 1445 career RBI and he was a below average player.

Ohtani hit the greatest home run ever, sure, although ...

Gotta admit, I think he has a point. There were other batted balls later in the game where I thought for sure were going out, but ended up as routine flyouts. The pop of the catcher's mitt on pitches was pretty noticeable, too.

Upton hit one to right field an inning or so later, and it sounded like it was going out of the stadium. It was a routine fly out.

    The mics were great.

JC will be along shortly to blast you for criticizing a guy who played in Canada. Shame on you.

Both important to drive in the run that won the game.

The Angels won, but that sequence that led to Ohtani getting dinged AND giving up the lead beggared belief. Guy's throwing ICBMs, but call a splitter in the dirt with two strikes, two out, and two runners in scoring position up a run? And just after another splitter in the dirt that got away?

    But, Maddon.

Come on don't put that on Maddon, I give him credit for letting Ohtani finish the 5th. I just saw the sequence where Ohtani got dinged and his catcher did him no favors; first he flat out misses what looks like a cutter, THEN he throws a Mackey Sasser throw to first; THEN the 1B hangs Ohtani out to dry with the high throw.

Ohtani deserved sooooo much better. That HR in the 1st was Roy Hobbs like. Man I wish he had come to SF.
