I doubt they knew the extent of the injury last night. Injuries like that can cause damage to the ligaments or labrum. It certainly can't leave the team very comfortable just a few games into his $340 million contract.

For the money, is there a worse, significant injuries aside, professional athlete than the Orioles’ Chris Davis over the past 4 years? -5.7 WAR 2017-20, OPS+ 96, 49, 61, -7. $94 Million salary over the same period.
